We believe in building a lasting human-canine bond through education, management and fun activities. Dogs are given an opportunity to learn with reward-based training using modern learning theory and practice. Best Friends Pet Resort Canine Academy offers private and group lessons, behavior consultations and board and train. Puppies and problem aggression are our specialties.

“First Steps” Puppy School (for pups 2-4 ½ months) Start your pup early to learn how to pay attention and understand your communication system. You will become a better puppy parent by learning about canine behavior and good teaching skills.

Our early education program includes: 

  • Learning socially appropriate behaviors with family, guests, children, dogs and cats
  • Learning safe behaviors around food and toys, and being handled and groomed
  • Puppy obedience: Name game, walk on leash, recall, positions, stay, go to bed, wait, leave it
  • Problem solving: Mouthing, nipping, house manners, running away, shyness
  • Agility, tricks, games, riding in the car and crating.

Family Dog Beginners. Continue your dog’s education with basic obedience training and more problem solving. These exercises are introduced with minor distractions:

Family Dog Intermediate. We introduce new exercises, more distractions and a higher level of control with a goal of passing the AKC Canine Good Citizen test. Requirement: Family Dog Beginners.

the director
Augusta Farley has been training dogs since 1975 and professionally teaching people to train dogs since 1980. Augusta has a MA in education with post-graduate work in animal learning. Using her knowledge of teaching and learning, Augusta specializes in making dog training easy and fun for both human and canine. 

Augusta has titled dogs in schutzhund/IPO, FH, French and mondioring, AKC conformation, obedience, tracking and AKC/ASCA, ISDS-style herding. She is among the few who has competed internationally in both IPO and mondioring. Augusta is an AKC CGC Evaluator.
