Augusta Farley is the owner of Best Friends Pet Resort and Canine Academy. She has been training dogs and their families since 1975, believing in building a lasting and endearing human-canine bond through education, management and fun activities. Dogs learn with reward-based training using modern learning theory and practice. To meet your needs, Augusta offers private and group lessons, behavior consultations and board and train opportunities. Helping owners modify aggression and build a lasting relationship with a puppy are her specialties.

Augusta Farley is certified as a CKO (Certified Kennel Operator) and a  CPDT-KA (Certified Pet Dog Trainer- Knowledge Assessed). Augusta is also an AKC Canine Good Citizen and S.T.A.R Puppy program evaluator.  She has trained and competed with Belgians and Border Collies in AKC obedience, schutzhund/IPO, French Ring, Mondioring and herding. Augusta has competed internationally in IPO and Mondioring with Malinois and breeds performance Malinois under the banner of Malinois Du Ciel Rouge.

Classes

Family Dog Beginners with Augusta Farley CKO CPDT-KA

Reward-based training and easy techniques used to teach your dog basic manners. You, at the other end of the leash,  the power of positive rewards to get better attention and enjoyment with your dog.  Learn how to teach polite greetings and walk on leash, a rocket recall, sit and down stay, plus problem-solving and management tips. Intro to the AKC STAR Puppy  & AKC Canine Good Citizen(CGC) programs (more information is available at akc.org). Indoors and Outdoors.  This beginners course is designed for dogs 4 months and older.
Fee:  $150, 6 weeks.

Family Dog Beginners Introduction--A Short Course with Augusta Farley CKO CPDT-KA

For the busy owner or someone who just needs a direction for do-it-yourself training, this course takes the most important elements of Family Dog Beginners and condenses it into a 3 week course.
Fee: $100. Available upon demand.

Nosework with Andrew Ramsey

This course is designed to develop your dog's natural scenting abilities by using their desire to hunt, to play with you, and their love of toys and  food. You learn to teach your dog to search for specific odors and indicate its find. Play this as a game with your dog or work toward titles in this fast-growing urban dog sport. Group and private lessons 
Fee: $125 1st dog, $100 each additional dog per day, Spectators $50

(An eligible AKC S.T.A.R Puppy course) 
 6 Week Course Begins Tuesday, March 6, 2012
Time: 6:30pm – 7:30pm        
                                                  
Bring:
  • Snug fitting buckle collar with ID and rabies tag
  • Optional: Gentle Leader,  E-Z Walk, or prong collar (no chain collars)
  • Leather or fabric 4-6 foot leash (no chain or flexi)
  • Pea-sized soft treats your dog can’t resist
  • A dog bed, towel or rug remnant for “Go to bed”
  • Current vaccination record (DA2PP, rabies, bordetella)
  • A plastic bag for clean up
For S.T.A.R. certificate candidates, dogs should wear id tags on collars
