American Eskimo "Angie," 14, wakes from her nap.

Augusta Farley would like to welcome you and your dog and cat to Best Friends Pet Resort.

Best Friends is committed to excellence in providing a fun and worry-free experience for both you and your pet. Our highly trained and caring staff prides itself in offering your pet an opportunity to work out in our spacious exercise yards, relax on soft beds in our clean guest rooms, and enjoy lots of human attention.

Dogs are exercised 3-4 times a day, enjoy mid-afternoon and bedtime snacks, and misters on hot California days. Extra pampering is offered with special activities  that can include group playtime with friendly, like-minded canines under staff supervision; one-on-one personal attention and playtime; and wading pools in the guest rooms.

Cats are offered special pet & purr sessions, plus free supervised exercise in the cat room.

For all pets on the premises, proof from your vet of current vaccinations  is required. We accept the program that you and your veterinarian determine is right for your pet. Any exceptions to the requirements must be in writing on your veterinarian's letterhead.

Boarding FAQs
I have never left my pet at a pet vacation resort. What should I expect?
It is normal to be worried about leaving your family member.  We are part of the hospitality service industry and, therefore, you should expect loving, secure and attentive care of your pet. If you have special needs or concerns, please let us know, and we will do our best to  give you and your pet awesome service.

What vaccinations do I need?
To maintain a healthy facility for your pet, we require proof of current vaccinations from your vet. We follow the protocol recommeded by UC-Davis, but we will accept also the program that you and your veterinarian determine is right for your pet. For dogs, we need rabies, DA2PP or DHPP and Bordetella. For cats, we need rabies and FVRCP. If you give your own vaccinations, we will accept a statement on letterhead from your veterinarian acknowledging that you give your own vaccinations and are a regular client in their pet wellness program.

Can you give medications?
We can give simple medications up to twice daily at no extra charge. After that or for more complicated treatments, we charge $1 per dose/treatment.

What is your policy on fleas, ticks and other pests?
We work to balance the maintenance of a healthy and clean facility for our guests with our impact on the natural environment. We suggest that you use a parasite prevention program for your pet to help us minimize the use of toxic sprays and chemicals.  If we find fleas or ticks on your pet, we will use Frontline or Capstar, and charge you for the product.

Can I bring my own food?
Yes. You can bring yours (please package for easy serving) or use ours. We feed IAMS and Eukanuba.

Can I bring treats and toys?
Yes, if you would like. Bring treats, toys and washable bedding to help make your dog and cat comfortable. Please limit the toys to 2.

My dog sometimes gets sick after being boarded. What can I do to prevent this?
In the excitement of arriving or departing, some dogs experience upset stomachs. It is important to feed your dog sparingly before leaving home and waiting at least 2 hours after it arrives home from its vacation to allow it to settle down. If it has been panting from excitement or the weather is hot, give a little water at a time to make the transition easier.
